DescriptionThis is an industrial and bedroom community in the eastern part of Montreal. It is bounded by Rivière-des-Prairies in the north, pont Charles de Gaulle, Highway 40, Henri-Bourassa East in the east, Sherbrooke Street East in the south and Rue du Quesne, Boulevard Rosemont, Boulevard Langelier, the CN line and Avenue Fernand-Gauthier in the west.

The main occupation in this riding is manufacturing, followed by retail trade and health and social services. There is almost an equal percentage of renters and homeowners in the riding. The average family income is $59,788 with unemployment at 7.5 per cent.

According to the 2001 census, 61 per cent have French as a mother tongue, while almost 19 per cent cited Italian as their ethnic origin, third highest in Canada. The total immigrant population is almost 23 per cent.

The riding was created in 2004, from 99.7 per cent of Anjou-Rivières-des-Prairies and four per cent of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve as well as small areas, with no population, from the Bourassa and Mercier ridings. The name was changed to Honoré-Mercier. Anjou–Rivières-des-Prairies was created in 1986 from 30 per cent of St-Léonard-Anjou, 31 per cent of Montreal-Mercier, and 20 per cent of Gamelin.
