Description | The St. James Parish Council holds 24 regular meetings each year. The meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Meetings alternate between the Courthouse in Convent and the Courthouse Annex in Vacherie.

ST. JAMES created within Acadia County. The creation of parishes did not abolish the 12 counties established on 10 Apr 1805. The counties existed for taxing and electoral purposes, while parishes took over jurisdiction of judicial matters.
