Its members, known as Jurors, are elected by the voters for a four year term. Annually, the Jurors elect a President as their chairman. RAPIDES Parish created within Rapides County. The creation of parishes did not abolish the 12 counties established on 10 Apr 1805. The counties existed for taxing and electoral purposes, while parishes took over jurisdiction of judicial matters.
