DescriptionThis riding, bounded on the south by the Strait of Georgia, contains West Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast Regional District, most of the Powell River Regional District, and the part of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District encompassing Whistler and the District Municipality of Squamish. Also here are Sechelt, Gibson's and Squamish, as well as Texada, Gambier, Goat and Nelson islands.

The 2001 census counted 124,572 residents, making this the most populous riding in Canada. One-quarter of the people are immigrants.

Economic activities in West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast include pulp and paper manufacturing and waterfront services. Education levels are high: nearly 19 per cent of residents hold a university degree. Incomes are also high, with the average family earning $90,764 per year in 2001. Housing costs are exorbitant: more than $370,000 for the average dwelling. Unemployment was 6.7 per cent in 2001.

West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast riding was created in 1996 by combining much of Capilano-Howe Sound with part of North Island-Powell River. In 2004, about 7,000 residents were added from the North Vancouver riding.

Population: 124,572

Known as West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast throughout the 2004 election, this riding's name was changed to West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country directly afterwards. The new name is said to be a more accurate reflection of the area.
