Description The department of the Secretary of State of New Hampshire is in charge of all elections
within the state of New Hampshire.

Located down the hallway from the Governor's Office (also known as the Corner Office)
on the second floor of the New Hampshire State Capitol in Concord, the main job of the
Secretary of State's office (locally known as the "SoS") is assisting individual precincts
throughout the state meet state required guidelines on elections as well as certifying all
state and federal elections and primaries which occur in the state, as detailed in
NH RSA Title LXIII.

The Department also acts as a resource for citizens curious about the inner workings
of elections in New Hampshire, as well as an impartial governmental accounting body
for internal government issues, such as ethics.

The Secretary of State is elected by secret ballot in the State Legislature's Organizing
Convention, occurring on the first Wednesday of December in state election years.
