| Description |
This riding has existed since 1958. It has been NDP since 1990. This is a central Winnipeg riding that runs from Portage/Banning/Ellice in the north to the Assiniboine River in the south. The western boundary is Century St. to the southwest and Banning St. to the northwest. The eastern boundary is Balmoral/Memorial/Osborne St. N. The University of Winnipeg is in the northeast corner of the riding.
The population in 2001 was 20,280. The average family income was $46,880, with an unemployment rate of 9.4 per cent. The main industry was health and social services (13.7%) followed by manufacturing (11.3%).
