Description |
A riding of Point Douglas existed from 1969 to 1978, then was re-established in the 1989 redistribution from parts of Burrows, Logan and St. John’s. The central Winnipeg riding runs from the Red River in the east to Balmoral/Gertie/Isabel/CPR Yards/McKenzie in the west, and from Mountain Avenue in the north to Portage/Water in the south.
The population in 2001 was 19,740. The average family income was $30,954. It had the highest rate of unemployment, 13.2 per cent, among Winnipeg ridings in 2001. The main industry was manufacturing (25%).
