Description |
This riding has existed since the 1886 election. The riding runs north and northwest of Winnipeg. Lake Manitoba forms part of the western border. It consists of many towns, villages and farming communities, including Lundar, St. Laurent, Stonewall, Stony Mountain, and Teulon. Redistribution in 1999 left the riding with less farmland and gave it a more urban flavour.
The population in 2001 was 20,080. The average family income was $60,597, with an unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent. The major industry was agriculture (15.2%) followed by health and social services (10.8%).
