Description |
Whitehorse West used to be the largest riding in the Yukon, with more than 2,000 voters in 2000, but it was carved in half just prior to the 2002 election to create a new riding, Copperbelt. Now only the subdivisions of Logan, Arkell and part of Copper Ridge lie within the boundaries of Whitehorse West. It wasn't the first time that the riding's booming population had spurred boundary changes since Whitehorse West was created in 1978.
The population seems destined to grow further, with more new lots planned within the riding. Unlike other areas in Whitehorse, people in the riding do not object to further development – perhaps because the constituency borders on kilometres of wilderness.
