Republic of Zimbabwe
The former British dependency of Rhodesia, Zimbabwe is a southern African nation wedged between South Africa and Zambia. With its capital in Harare, Zimbabwe is composed of eight provinces and two provincial cities: Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Midlands, City of Bulawayo and the City of Harare. Zimbabwe is 98% black, the result of an aggressive campaign by President Robert Gabriel Mugabe to drive out whites from the country. English is the official language of the country.
Zimbabwe is a parliamentary democracy led by a President who stands as both head of state and government. The President is elected by popular vote. Upon taking office, the President appoints Co-Vice Presidents and a Cabinet responsible to parliament. Legislation is the jurisdiction of the unicameral parliament which is made of the House of Assembly.
