Description With roots stretching back to the 10th century, Luxembourg was officially declared independent as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on March 15, 1815 upon the demise of Napoleonic France.

Luxembourg developed as a world-renowned steel manufacturing center, later diversifying itself into Europe's most powerful investment management center as the steel industry waned.

Luxembourgish, a derivation of German, is one of the country's three main languages.
