Description Republic of Indonesia
Republik Indonesia

A former Dutch colony, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. With its capital in Jakarta, Indonesia is comprised of 27 provinces, two special administrative regions and one special capital city district. All of Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The largest Muslim nation in the world, 88% of its population are devoted to Islam. Citizens of Indonesia speak Bahasa Indonesia (a modified form of Malay), Dutch and English.

As a republic, Indonesia is led by a People's Consultative Assembly, also known as the Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat, elected President who stands as both head of state and government. His or her cabinet is charged with administration. Legislation is the jurisdiction of the unicameral House of People's Representatives or Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat.
