Kingdom of Denmark |
A Northern European kingdom (the oldest monarchy in Europe), Denmark borders the Baltic Sea and the North Sea on a peninsula north of Germany. Denmark was first organized as a unified state in the 10th century. In 1849, it became a constitutional monarchy. With its capital in Copenhagen, Denmark consists of 14 counties, 2 boroughs, and other overseas administrative divisions.
As a constitutional monarchy, the nation is lead by the Royal House, the King or Queen and the Heir Apparent. The Head of Government is the Prime Minister who heads a cabinet appointed by him or her. Danish legislation is the jurisdiction of the unicameral Parliament or Folketing. The Supreme Court is appointed by the Monarch for life.
