| Description |
Region began as the Yaroslavl Governate (Yaroslavl Province) until an anti-Soviet uprising in July 1918 and a White Guard presence brought about its 'liquidation' by the Red Army and massacres of large populations. The Yaroslavl province was evaporated and absorbed as part of the Ivanovo industrial region in January 1929. Yaroslavl then reemerged as a separate territorial unit on March 11, 1936 after being transformed into a center of industrialization by the First Five-Year plan, which ended in 1932. Yaroslavl is considered the center of European Russia.
