Description |
On November 5, 1968, voters approved King County's Home Rule Charter. It replaced the three-member County Commission (then John Spellman, Ed Munro, and John O’Brien) with a nine-member County Council (elected by district) and the office of King County Executive.
John Spellman, a Republican, was elected the first county executive along with all nine council positions in May 1969.
