Description |
This seat consists of 21 wards from the old Ochil constituency, nine from the old Perth constituency, plus one which was split between Perth & North Tayside. South Perthshire covers the towns of Kinross, Crieff, Comrie and Auchterarder, and has tourism and agriculture as its main economic drivers, with the five-star Gleneagles Hotel, venue for many top golf tournaments, a key employer in this picturesque area. Loch Leven, near Kinross, is a National Nature Reserve and has historical links ' Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in Loch Leven Castle, situated on an island in the loch, between 1567 and 1568. In the north, the constituency takes on a more rural and mountainous character. Part of this constituency also covers the Clackmannanshire council area.
