Description |
This constituency comprises the old Glasgow Anniesland seat with the exception of Kelvindale ward which goes to Glasgow North. It includes Jordanhill which was shared with the old Glasgow Kelvin, plus Scotstoun, Victoria Park and Hayburn from the old Glasgow Kelvin seat. The new seat has a very varied social mix, stretching, as it does, from sprawling Drumchapel on the outskirts of Glasgow to take in some of the more affluent parts of the city. The constituency runs along the north bank of the River Clyde and is home to one of the city's two remaining shipyards and BAe Systems at Scotstoun - which specialises in frigates and other vessels for the Royal Navy. It is the Glasgow seat most associated with Donald Dewar, the Scottish Parliament's late first minister, who represented one of the predecessor seats for more than 20 years, following a famous by-election victory over the SNP.
