Description Self-governing province of Pakistan formerly known as the British-administered "North-West Frontier Province" until its Pashtun majority succeeded in renaming it Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP or "Land of the Pashtuns on the Khyber") on April 19, 2010.

At the direction of the Pakistan Military, KP absorbed the troubled, chaotic, militant-controlled "Federally Administered Tribal Areas" (FATA) adjoining it by way of an amendment to the Pakistani Constitution on May 24, 2018. The KP Assembly approved the merger on May 28, 2018, and the president signed the merger into law on June 1, 2018 [Link]

The capital city is Peshawar.
