Description |
Bonnyville-Cold Lake is a rural riding hugging the Saskatchewan border in northeast Alberta. The 2004 redistribution changed the boundaries, so that the riding now reaches only to the southern edge of the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range, and takes in areas of the old Lac La Biche-St. Paul riding, including the Puskiakiwenin and Unipouheous First Nations. Communities include Bonnyville, Cold Lake and Glendon. With 29,944 residents, this is Alberta's fourth-least-populated riding.
The biggest employers here are government services and retail, contributing to an average household income of $59,922, just under the provincial average. Also below average is the percentage of people considered low income: 7.8. One in every five residents is aboriginal, while 1.8 per cent are francophone, the second-highest rate in the province. Almost 61 per cent of residents were born in Alberta, and four per cent are immigrants.
