This riding is north of Montreal with Rivière-des-Milles-Îles as its southern boundary. It contains the regional county municipality of Montcalm, the city of Mascouche and the former cities of La Plaine and Lachenaie.
Manufacturing is the major industry in this riding, followed by retail trade.The average family income is $56,241 with an unemployment rate of 6.7 per cent.
Almost 96 per cent of the population cited French as a mother tongue, while less than two per cent cited English. The total immigrant population is two per cent.
The riding of Montcalm was created in the 2004 redistribution from 53 per cent of Repentigny and 30 per cent of Berthier-Montcalm. Repentigny riding was created in 1996.
