Description |
This riding runs between the Fraser River in the north and the U.S. border in the south. It contains part of the Fraser Valley Regional District, including the city of Abbotsford, and the Matsqui and Upper Sumas reserves.
The 2001 census counted 116,098 residents. Nearly a quarter of them were immigrants; at least 13 per cent were of East Indian origin.
The service sector and manufacturing are the main industries. Average family income was $58,719 in 2001, and unemployment was 8.3 per cent.
The Abbotsford riding was created in 2004 by combining nearly equal portions of Fraser Valley and Langley-Abbotsford.
