PBS News Hour
The PBS News division was begun by Canadian journalist Robert MacNeil and Texas news reporter Jim Lehrer in 1972, covering the Watergate Scandal in Washington, DC. In 1975, PBS launched the "MacNeil Lehrer Report" and in 1983 it expanded to a full hour of evening news to become the "MacNeil Lehrer News Hour." Upon the retirement of MacNeil in 1995, PBS branded the program to become "The News Hour" headlining Jim Lehrer. That set the stage for "The News Hour" to become the permament PBS evening news program to continue after Lehrer's tenure.
