Description |
The Prime Minister's powers are defined within the framework of a constitutional monarchy, in which the King serves as the head of state, and the Prime Minister is the head of government. The current Prime Minister, Hun Sen, has dominated the office since first assuming the prime-ministership in January 1985, through the Co-premiership (1993-1997), and taking full control via the Cambodia 1997 Coup. On November 30, 1998, he installed himself as Cambodia's fourth prime minister with all-pervasive powers, and created a one-party state via the Cambodian People's Party (CPP).
