Description |
The president is the chief executive arm of the nation. The Haitian constitution mandates a division of executive power with a prime minister appointed by the president. Historically, presidential terms begin and end on a February 7th every five years. Disruptions to this routine began with the 42nd President of Haiti, who started in office on May 14, 2011 due to extenuating circumstances, closing his term on February 7, 2016. The current president of Haiti Ariel Henry took office on July 20, 2021 after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
