Description |
Prior to 1966, districts were all county-based with each county guaranteed at least one Representative. The House consisted of 209 members with close to half of the members coming from multi-member districts. As a result of US Supreme Court rulings regarding "one man, one vote", the House was reapportioned into 203 single-member districts, based on population, with county lines crossed when necessary to adhere to the "one man, one vote" principle. This Reapportionment plan was drawn up by the PA Supreme Court on February 4, 1966 and used initially in the November 1966 elections.
Legislative House Terms begin and end on December 1st following the November elections.
For instance, State Representatives elected in 2022 have a term that
