Governmental body created as a result of negotiations between the Transitional Military Council (TMC), which has ruled Sudan since April 2019, and an opposition alliance known as the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), which established itself on January 1, 2019.
The Transitional Sovereignty Council was initially comprised of five members each from the two sides plus a civilian agreed on by both and sworn in on August 21, 2019. On February 5, 2021, three new members were added by decree.
The Council dissolved itself on October 25, 2021 and re-emerged on November 11, 2021.
