Description The position of Lt. Governor is created by the Ohio Constitution (Article 3) as part
of the executive branch. Article 3 also specifies that voters cast a combined vote
for Governor and Lt. Governor. This is often called "running on the same ticket."
An elected term is four years, and like the Governor, the Lt. Governor cannot serve
more than two consecutive terms. If a vacancy occurs, the Governor can appoint a
new Lt. Governor to serve the remainder of the term. This appointment is subject
to confirmation by both houses of the Ohio General Assembly.

The lieutenant governor shall be elected quadrennially, jointly with the governor,
and shall hold his office for a term of four years. The term of office of the lt. governor
shall commence on the second Monday of January next after his election. [Link]
