One of seven institutions of the European Union, the CJEU is the Union's chief judicial authority. It consists of two courts; the Court of Justice, which is made up of one judge from each EU-member country + an additional 11 'advocates general', and a lower General Court, which is composed of 56 judges. The CJEU is based in Luxembourg.
