Description The Office of the Prime Minister was made permanent in a new constitution ratified in 1947 after the Japanese occupation. The constitution was written after the French–Lao agreement established the Kingdom of Laos on August 27, 1946. Under the present-day Communist government, the Prime Minister is appointed by the President and is subordinate to the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Office became largely ceremonial.
