Incorporated in 1894, Lindström was first settled by Daniel Lindström who left Sweden for America in 1853. Among the Swedish Emigrants was Erik Norelius, whose personal journals (documented in part) formed the basis of Vilhelm Moberg’s novels of the Swedish Emigration to America. Moberg’s fictional heroes, Karl-Oskar and Kristina Nilsson, are memorialized in statue at the west end of town as a tribute to the early Swedish immigrants whose descendents continue to populate our area.
The Lindström City Council, composed of four elected Council Members and an elected Mayor, is the Governmental body that oversees the operation of the City. Two of the Council members are elected each even-numbered year and serve a four-year term. The Mayor serves a two-year term. The Council meets on the third Thursday of each month, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 13292 Sylvan Ave, Lindström.
