Howard Lake is a growing community on the western edge of the Twin Cities metro area. Our location places us close to the Twin Cities for a quick commute, or far enough from the Twin Cities to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The mayor and four council members make up Howard Lake's elected City Council. The mayor serves a two-year term; the council members serve four-year staggered terms. Local elections take place in November of even numbered years. The mayor receives a salary of $5,000 per year; council members are paid $3,750 per year. Each council member receives $30.00 for special meetings lasting less than four hours. They each receive $50.00 for meetings lasting four hours or longer.
Council Meetings:
The council meets the third Tuesday of each month at City Hall, 625 8th Avenue at 7:00 pm. Workshop meetings and budget meetings for the City Council may be scheduled in conjunction with regular council meetings.
