The Town of May, previously part of Marine Township, is located in the northeastern portion of Washington County. The Town was organized in 1893. A year later, the town hall was built and the first supervisors elected. The Town was named after Morgan May, an English immigrant who eventually became one of the more prosperous farmers in the Town. The first census in 1905 showed a total population of 761.
