| Description |
This rural riding in western Saskatchewan straddles the Alberta border. It includes the communities of North Battleford, Battleford, Lloydminster, Kindersley and Unity, along with numerous smaller towns.
The 2001 census counted 73,396 residents. About 10 per cent of those are aboriginal, many of whom live on reserves such as the sizable Poundmaker reserve. Agriculture is the biggest industry in this riding, with the primary crops being grains and oil seeds. Cattle, pigs and sheep are also raised. Resource-based industries, including oil and natural gas, play a major role and the Lloydminster Heavy Oil Upgrader is in the riding. Unemployment is 5.4 per cent, and the average family income is $51,938.
This riding was created in the 1996 redistribution from equal-sized parts of Battlefords-Meadow Lake and Kindersley-Lloydminster.
