Description This small urban riding is at the south tip of Vancouver Island, and encompasses the city of Victoria, the adjacent municipality of Oak Bay, and the southeast corner of the District of Saanich, including the University of Victoria.

The 2001 census counted 104,561 residents, of whom 21 per cent are immigrants. About 19 per cent are older than 65 – the fifth-highest such proportion of any riding.

The local economy is primarily service-oriented, with the major employer being government. Tourism is also important. The average family income in 2001 was $66,327, and unemployment was eight per cent.

Victoria riding originally existed as a two-member seat from 1872 to 1903. It was re-established in 1924.
