The New Democratic Party of Canada was founded in 1961 at a convention in Ottawa, which brought together the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and affiliated unions of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). However, the origins of the Party go back to the social reform movement of the early twentieth century and to pioneer social activists.
