Description Self-governing Administrative Territory at the farthest northeast tip of Pakistan formerly known as the Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA) from 1974 until September 7, 2009.

Called the Gilgit Agency until 1974, an assembly of princely states run by a British Political Agent starting in 1889, the land was planted under the Pakistani flag after a rebellion on November 1, 1947.

The UN still circumscribes this and the adjoining territory of Azad Jammu & Kasmir as "Pakistan Administered Kashmir."

Since February 1, 2012, Gilgit–Baltistan contained ten districts; four in Baltistan Division, four in Gilgit Division and two in Diamer Division-Baltistan [Link] Another four were added (Gupis Yasin, Dareal, Roundu & Tangir) on April 20, 2019 [Link]

Main language is Balti. Capital is Gilgit.
