InfoCharles H. Craig was born at Knoxville, Illinois, June 16th, 1865, and was a son of the late Alfred M. Craig, lawyer and former member of the Court from the same district. He was educated at the public schools, Knox College, and Notre Dame University. He studied law with Stevenson and Ewing at Bloomington, Illinois, and attended the Bloomington Law School, from which he was graduated in 1888. He was admitted to the Bar the same year and practiced law in Galesburg until his election to the Supreme Court. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the forty-first and forty-second General Assemblies and served on the Judiciary Committee each session. He was elected October 20th, 1913, to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Judge John P. Hand. He was Chief Justice of the Court for the year preceding the June Term, 1917.
