InfoAs a community advocate, businesswoman, and respected leader, State Senator Susan Garrett brings an outstanding record of success to the 29th District. She continues to focus on the quality of life issues that have been her platform for years: maximum education funding, more accessible health care, and well-planned community development. Susan has always made it a priority to be highly accessible to all of her constituents. She also strongly believes that our government as a whole, should be open and accessible to Illinois residents.

Susan currently serves on the State Government, Health and Human Services, Education, Transportation, and Appropriations Committees. Her priorities for 2005 include promoting further government ethics reforms, ensuring maximum funding for our public schools, and insurance consumer protection initiatives.

Susan recently convened an Illinois Senate Education Hearing to ensure children of military families relocating to the 29th district have adequate educational resources and ample opportunities for success. Susan established a local transportation committee to monitor and address local traffic safety issues. She has hosted educational forums on topics ranging from autism to property taxes. Most recently, Susan held an educational forum to clarify the No Child Left Behind Act. Additionally, this spring Susan held a public hearing to ensure absentee voters have every opportunity to have their vote counted. She has been at the forefront of government ethics reform and led the successful fight to post the votes of the state legislature on the Internet.

Susan earned her Bachelor's Degree from Lake Forest College. She resides in Lake Forest with her husband Scott and two children, Brett and Elizabeth.
