He was born in Utica, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, January 13, 1849; lived on a farm until he was thirty years old; came to Washington in May, 1881; settled at Spokane Falls; was elected first city marshal, and held the office four terms; was chief of the fire department for three years, and held other minor offices; is engaged in the real estate and banking business; is a large property owner in Spokane Falls, where he resides; he is a holdover senator.
