Info | ARMFIELD, Robert Franklin, a Representative from North Carolina; born near Greensboro, Guilford County, N.C., July 9, 1829; attended the common schools and was graduated from Trinity College, Durham, N.C.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1845 and began practice in Yadkinville, N.C.; enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861; served as lieutenant and later as lieutenant colonel of the Thirty-eighth Regiment of North Carolina State troops during the Civil War; moved to Statesville, N.C., and continued the practice of law; State solicitor for the sixth district in 1862 while on furlough from the Army; member of the State senate in 1874 and 1875, serving as president in 1874.
U.S. Representative (D-NC) 1879-83.
Resumed the practice of law; appointed and subsequently elected judge of the superior court and served from 1889 until January 1, 1895, when he retired; died in Statesville, Iredell County, N.C., November 9, 1898; interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
