Lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and maintained a large medical practice there 1873 to 1906

Relocated to Clingman NC in 1906

Accidentally killed himself in 1914. He went into his office one evening and in the dark selected a bottle he thought contained cider for a drink but instead drank carbolic acid. He immediately recognized his error and went to his house and drank milk, hoping it would dilute the acid, but he died within 15 minutes.
