Info | Gilchrist was a Robeson County attorney. Gilchrist earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1809.
Member of the NC House of Commons from Robeson County 1810-1811, 1816-1817, 1822
Member of the NC State Senate 1825-1827 Gilchrist was a delegate to the National Republican Party's congressional district convention in 1832 (Newbern Spectator, 8/17/1832). In 1836, Gilchrist was an early supporter of Hugh L. White in his presidential campaign (Fayetteville Observer, 4/21/1836).
In 1866, it was reported that he was the oldest living attorney in North Carolina (Wilmington Daily Dispatch, 9/28/1866).
