Info | Mr. Fitzgerald is the owner of a small firm named Aquenef Engineering. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He and his wife, Cathy live in Squirrel Hill with their eight children.
Mr. Fitzgerald has been actively involved in the world of politics through the Pennsylvania State Democratic Committee, Allegheny County Democratic Committee and the 14th Ward Democratic Club Board of Directors. He currently serves as Chair of Councils Democratic Caucus. Mr. Fitzgeralds experience in founding his own business has provided him with a clear objective on how to retain and attract businesses to the region. The skills and techniques Mr. Fitzgerald has learned through running his own business provide him with a good foundation for his seat on County Council.
Mr. Fitzgerald has served on Council with a spirit of bi-partisanship. His work in researching and cosponsoring legislation with his republican colleagues included a study on different forms of local government taxation that he spearheaded with Council Member Ron Francis, and a resolution cosponsored with Council Member Dave Fawcett authorizing and directing the Countys Department of Economic Development to designate portions of all newly acquired land and development property along the riverfronts for trail use. Throughout his term, Council Member Fitzgerald has taken a proactive stance as a member of council, sponsoring a variety of legislation, including that which placed the real estate information on the Countys website.
The vision of Allegheny County seen through the eyes of Councilman Fitzgerald is one of Economic Development. Mr. Fitzgeralds goals in this area are to establish effective transportation and infrastructure systems, as well as sewage and communication lines. Mr. Fitzgerald believes that County government should meet the needs of each district, "I feel the new form of government gives us a unique opportunity to move our region forward."
