InfoThomas Dean "Tom" Boettcher

Tom Boettcher is a Tulsa attorney and author who is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and the University of Oklahoma School of Law. At the academy, he was appointed commander of the 2,800-man Cadet Wing his senior year and was recipient of the George C. Marshall Leadership Award. His classmates named him a member of their Ethics Committee. An honor student who was also on the wrestling and football teams, he was awarded the Tate Brothers Award for being the graduating cadet who as an intercollegiate athlete displayed the highest traits of leadership.

He is a Vietnam veteran where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Prevented from becoming a pilot because he is partially colorblind, he served in Vietnam as a press officer, traveling throughout the war zone. This experience led to a career in writing and publishing.

Boettcher has been a small business owner for a number of years. At the academy he had been awarded The Wall Street Journal Award as the outstanding student in investment analysis. He had taken graduate-level courses toward earning an MBA scholarship at UCLA, which he declined when he volunteered for duty in Vietnam. With this educational background and his writing experience, he helped start the magazines Oklahoma Monthly and Trade & Culture.

Boettcher is married to Pam Olson of Midwest City. She was a network reporter for both CBS News and CNN. For CBS she covered the Southeastern United States. For CNN, she was both a Congressional and White House correspondent, covering several years of the Bush administration and Ronald Reagans re-election campaign. Her career as a television reporter began at Oklahoma Citys Channel 9, where she became the first woman in the Oklahoma City market to anchor a primetime newscast. The Oklahoma Legislature officially acknowledged that her hour-long documentary The Gift of Life prompted the states organ donor law, which allows drivers to designate on their licenses a willingness to donate their organs at death. While a young reporter, Olson was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Women in America. She has also been inducted into the Oklahoma Womens Hall of Fame. Tom Boettcher and Pam Olson, married for 22 years, are the parents of Evelyn, 14, and Lily, 12.
