InfoMr. John W. Sears, native of Boston and graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, has served his city, state and nation with great distinction and accomplishment in a remarkable career now spanning five decades. His record of public service is among the most impressive in modern Massachusetts history. His commitment to work tirelessly on behalf of all of the citizens of the state is a source of ongoing pride, inspiration and motivation to all who aspire to serve the greater good.

As a former two-term member of the Massachusetts Legislature, former candidate for mayor of Boston and governor of the commonwealth, sheriff of Suffolk County, former chairman of the Metropolitan District Commission, former member of the Boston City Council and chairman of the Boston Finance Commission, and, for more than 30 years, a vigorous leader of the Massachusetts Republican Party, he has endeavored throughout his entire adult life to improve the lives of others. In addition to holding public office in a number of high-level and demanding elected and appointed positions, he has given generously of his experience to a variety of significant community service projects, including his work with the United South End Settlements of Boston, one of the city's most respected human service organizations.

In the spring of 2006, Bridgewater State College paid homage to John for his lifetime of service to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by welcoming him as its newest honorary alumnus. This is a title he has since carried with pride while attending several BSC alumni events in the Boston area and becoming a generous philanthropic supporter and proud proponent of our college.
