| Info | Sylvester J. Betts was a Baptist minister and a temperance leader. He served as the first pastor of the People's Baptist Church in Bayonne NJ in the late 1800s. He relocated to Raleigh NC around 1885 and pastored there the remainder of his life. In 1935, he published the book The Imminent Second Coming of Christ.
