Born near Dayton OH 1889.
BA Olivet Nazarene College, 1917; active in the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association.
Delegate to the Prohibition National Conventions of 1912 from Illinois and 1916 from Idaho
Executive Secretary of the Colorado Prohibition Party 1913
First Dean of Marion College in 1920 when it was founded
Professor of Sociology, Pasadena College
Ph.D., Sociology, University of Southern California.
Administrator, Los Angeles Unified School District 1929-1953
First editor of The Progressive World 1948; helped found the Los Angeles Humanist Society. Editor of the Humanist World, Peace Digest, The American Rationalist 1958-1960, and the Rationalist.
Chairman of the Prohibition National Committee 1953-1955; was the only non-Christian to hold the post. Left the party in 1955 when it would not nominate former US Senator William Langer for President and helped organize the American Pioneers Party which did nominate Langer. When Langer declined to run, the party vanished.
Founded the Pacific International University and spent much of the remainder of his life there.
Died in Pasadena CA 12/25/1973.
