InfoSpecial Assistant to President Clinton and a senior advisor to the Kerry-Edwards campaign in 2004

Jay K. Footlik, candidate for U.S. Congress, has devoted most of his life to public service and to the issues that unify Americans.

Growing up in suburban Skokie with his brother and single mom, he saw up-close how public leaders have a responsibility to help ordinary citizens with issues like good schools, reliable health insurance, affordable tuition, and good jobs. Most of all, he learned the value of community – whether in his synagogue, Ezra Habonim, the Niles Township Jewish Congregation, at Niles North High School, or even as a child actor at Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theater, The Goodman or Second City. Jay has carried forward friendships throughout his life – friendships from Chicago that sustain him to this day. Jay’s mom still works at the Weinger JCC in Northbrook.

His life in public service accelerated in 1992, when after serving as a campaign aide to then-Governor Bill Clinton, he was brought to the White House to serve as Special Assistant to the President, focusing his responsibilities as the President’s principal liaison to the American Jewish community.

During the 2004 Presidential campaign, Jay first worked for Senator Joe Lieberman’s campaign and was then asked to serve as Senior Advisor on Middle East and Jewish Affairs for the Kerry/Edwards Campaign. He was the lead architect for crafting the political strategy and policies that helped the campaign capture the overwhelming support of the American Jewish community.

Currently in private practice, Jay, along with Yuval Rabin – the son of the late Israeli Prime Minister – built the consulting firm, DiNovo Strategies, Inc. From 1998 to 2003, Jay commuted back and forth from Vernon Hills and Israel and worked on a variety of projects aimed at forging a secure and lasting peace in the Middle East. This included work with former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres – and as a consultant in the political, non-profit and business arenas.

Jay serves on the board of trustees of the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) and on the board of directors of the American Friends of the Rabin Center and SAFE (Securing America’s Future Energy), an organization dedicated to reducing America’s dependency on oil.

A veteran of many political campaigns and a lifelong Democrat, Footlik is respected by Democrats and Republicans alike for his ability to reach across partisan lines and forge consensus and opportunities on important issues.

He is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from U.S. politics and presidential elections to foreign policy and the Middle East and has lectured extensively to audiences throughout the U.S., Canada, Israel and Brazil.

Jay earned a B.A. in political science from UCLA, specializing in the Arab-Israeli conflict. He holds a law degree from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles.

Jay’s wife, Grace, is a Brazilian-born Israeli artist. They have one daughter, Yarden, who is two years old.
