InfoCongressman Jason Altmire is serving his first term in the United States House of Representatives. He represents Pennsylvania’s Fourth Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, and Westmoreland Counties. He serves as Chairman of the Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee of the House Small Business Committee; as well as serving on the Education and Labor Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Jason grew up in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, where he was a record-breaking two-sport letterman at Burrell High School. He attended Florida State University, where he was a member of the school’s first Sugar Bowl championship football team. He also has a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from George Washington University.

From 1991 to 1996, Jason worked as a Legislative Assistant in the Capitol Hill office of U.S. Congressman Pete Peterson of Florida. In 1993, Jason was appointed to a working group for President Clinton’s Task Force on National Health Care Reform. After leaving Capitol Hill, he joined the Federation of American Hospitals, where he worked until 1998. He then returned to his roots in western Pennsylvania to join University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), an 18-hospital system with more than 43,000 employees and nearly $6 billion in annual revenue. In 2005, he resigned his position to run for Congress.

Jason has been a leading voice in Congress on veterans’ health care, economic development, education and health care reform. He is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, which is made up of moderate, pro-growth Democratic House Members. The New Democrat Coalition has built a reputation as the "go-to" group in Congress on the critical issues of economic growth, national security, personal responsibility, and technology development.

Jason is actively involved in his community and has served on the board of more than a dozen organizations in western Pennsylvania and received numerous awards, including the Northern Allegheny Chamber of Commerce’s prestigious 2005 Arcadia Award, given to one local businessman deemed to have achieved excellence in business and community service. He is also an alumnus of the Leadership Pittsburgh program.

Jason currently lives in McCandless, Allegheny County, with his wife, Kelly, and their two young daughters.
