InfoCarmen Rodriguez is a mother, grandmother, wife and full-time practicing attorney. She graduated from U.T. Law School in 1981 and has concentrated her law practice on employment matters. More recently she has focused on federal and state laws that affect displaced workers and issues related to job re-training. Ms. Rodriguez has devoted her spare time to numerous civic activities including service on boards of community organizations that seek to improve, educate and strengthen the El Paso Community.

Rodriguez served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the El Paso Empowerment Zone where she served for four years. She is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for Texas Tech University in El Paso. She was one of the founders and president of the El Paso Commission for Women in 1986 and more recently the Frontera Focused Women's Fund, which supports women's organization along the Texas Mexico border. She was a member of the Hispanic Leadership Institute and served as its Chair in 1995. Ms. Rodriguez has also served on the El Paso History Museum Advisory Sub-Committee, the City's Housing Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, the Mission Trail Association and MALDEF's El Paso Leadership Program. On a statewide basis, she served as Governor Ann Richard's appointee to the Texas Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Commission and served as a board member of the Texas Center for Public Policy, in Austin , Texas.

Ms. Rodriguez' deep involvement in local politics spans several decades and she has worked actively in many political campaigns. She has been recognized by the El Paso Women's Political Caucus' as the 1989 Woman of the Year in Law, MABA of Texas, Outstanding Lawyer in 1991, the MALDEF's Legal Services Award in 2002, and Adelante Mujer Hispana Award, 2003.
